Join us at The Hong Kong Palace Museum and The Henderson, the new Christie's Asia Headquarters, for an afternoon of in-depth learning focused on classical European decorative art.This April, alongside Asian Art Week at The Henderson, Christie’s will welcome the eminent and celebrated Galerie Steinitz to Hong Kong from Paris. Galerie Steinitz will present a curation of furniture, objects and art works at the Christie’s, each selected for its rich provenance and outstanding representation of the finest French craftmanship. We are delighted to be bringing this exhibition to Hong Kong during the Versailles exhibition at the Hong Kong Palace Museum.
Participants of the course will enjoy an in-depth presentation and a handling session of the pieces in the Steinitz exhibition at Christie's, led by Benjamin Steinitz himself with Christie's experts in classical European art. Explore the techniques employed by the craftsman of the 17th and 18th century in France, and receive a tutorial in how to authenticate these works and assess their quality and condition.
The itinerary includes a trip to the Hong Kong Palace Museum for a tour of the exhibition The Forbidden City and The Palace of Versailles. The exhibition includes 150 treasures from Versailles as a well as the Palace Museum and offers an interesting study into the exchange of ideas and technology during this great period for artistic development. The tour will be led by both an expert in European art as well as a Chinese Art expert to give students a deep insight into this historical exchange.
