Overview

Journalism and Criticism in the Arts is designed for professionals eager to navigate the complexities of the art market and make a meaningful impact through their voice. Join us at Christie’s King Street to explore the practical and professional principles of arts journalism and criticism. Learn how to tell the stories that shape the art world and launch your career in this ever-evolving field.

Over three intensive days, participants will meet art market professionals from The Art Newspaper, the BBC, and leading independent critics, journalists, and podcasters, who will share their insights on reporting and working in the art world

Through interactive lectures, case studies, workshops, and a panel discussion, students will explore the key distinctions between journalism and criticism, examine ethical challenges in the field, and develop practical skills in structuring compelling stories. Additional sessions focus on investigative journalism in the art market, building your career, digital journalism and social media, editing and polishing, and an introduction to media law.

The programme concludes with a panel discussion featuring industry experts, exploring topics such as maintaining integrity, understanding trends, keeping on top of alternative media platforms, and the future of journalism.

Begin your career in arts journalism and criticism today.

Study at the Auction House

Study at the Auction House

Christie’s, the world's oldest fine art auctioneer, has sold fine art, furniture, jewellery and wine since James Christie conducted the first sale in London on 5 December 1766. Ever since, Christie’s London has continued to provide the perfect backdrop for the sales of the world’s finest collections and greatest works of art. Christie’s moved to its global headquarters at 8 King Street, St. James’s in 1823.

The gallery spaces at King Street are transformed into classrooms during our exclusive programming in London, so that students are immersed in the fast-paced environment of the auction house.
